Originally from East Brunswick, N.J., Michael graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology and Law. He went on to receive his Law Degree (Juris Doctor) from Mercer University Walter F. George School of Law.
Attorney Experienced In Accident Investigation
Prior to law school, Michael served his community as a police officer with the Orlando Police Department and as an Auxiliary State Trooper with the Florida Highway Patrol. In both assignments, Michael rendered aid and investigated hundreds of accidents which has helped him understand and witness first-hand the experiences that personal injury victims endure.
In addition to his duties as a trooper with FHP, Michael worked with a Felony Squad which consisted of specially trained troopers and a K-9 focusing on tactical duty assignments such as narcotics interdiction and fugitive apprehension.
While with the Orlando Police Department, Michael graduated 1st in his academy class. He achieved a perfect score on the law exam which was an accomplishment never before realized at the J.C. Stone Memorial Police Academy. As a patrol officer, Michael received 2 Medals of Commendation and 3 Merit Citations for his bravery in apprehending armed and dangerous felons during the commission of robberies and burglaries. He went on to serve as a senior field training officer for new academy graduates teaching them patrol techniques and providing them firearms instruction. He also was a member of the Emergency Response Team responsible for quelling mass disturbances and providing rapid response to police emergencies.
After only 3 years, Michael was promoted to Detective functioning as an undercover agent in the Drug Enforcement Division. Michael worked side-by-side with agents of various state and federal law enforcement agencies such as the Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Marshall’s Service, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Naval Investigative Service (now known as Naval Criminal Investigative Service).
Experience & Professional Memberships
Having graduated 17th out of 141 students in his class from Mercer University, Michael has many accomplishments from his law school career. In his first year, he was selected to represent the law school as a Moot Court competition team member and participated in national competitions. He was also chosen to be a member of the Mercer Law Review based on his academic performance and won a scholarship his final year of school due to his academic success.
Michael was admitted to the Florida Bar and Federal Bar in the Middle District of Florida in 1997. His professional association memberships include the Orange County Bar Association, Seminole County Bar, the American Association for Justice, and the Florida Justice Association and the Central Florida Trial Lawyers Association. Michael is a former adjunct professor of legal studies teaching course work in criminal law and legal research and writing. As a civil justice attorney, he has litigated hundreds of personal injury, insurance, workers’ compensation, false arrest and police misconduct cases.
When not in the courtroom, Michael enjoys spending time with his children at the beach and other outdoor activities. He is often out and about on one of his custom motorcycles spreading the word of rider safety wherever he goes. Michael is also an avid Florida football fan, a devoted “foodie” and self-proclaimed chef, and enjoys challenging regimens of physical fitness training.
