Harley-Davidson Releases New Engine

New Milwaukee-Eight V-twin Engine Is First in Over a Decade for Harley-Davidson

Can you believe it has been 15 years since Harley-Davidson has produced a new motorcycle engine? Apparently, the motorcycle manufacturing giant has spent this time developing the Milwaukee-Eight V-twin engine which better suits the needs and desires of its client base — you!

Harley-Davidson’s goal when creating this new model was to make an engine that has increased torque and more power while being fuel efficient, adhering to emissions standards and maintaining its reliability. At the same time, Harley-Davidson designers said they want to provide riders with what they want: better cooling system, able to fit riders of all sizes and increased ability to ride on back roads.

This eight valve engine is designed to function well both on the highway and within the city. On highways, riders want to be able to travel faster and longer. However, this creates the need for an improved cooling system. It is mostly air cooled, but it also has a liquid cooling agent which circulates around the cylinder’s exhaust valve and external radiators. Additionally, it attempts to limit the amount of heat produced by the engine in the first place. This is accomplished by switching from having a hemi chamber that holds two-valves to four-valves and in doing so, decreasing the surface area.

For those who ride in the city, excessive vibration during traffic causes a fair amount of discomfort. However, for this newest design, they have reduced the amount of shaking by installing a counter-rotating balancer. With the help of the balancer, vibration is reduced up to 75 percent.

For motorcyclists who appreciate customization, the engine comes in two different sizes and three variations. You will have the option between the Milwaukee- Eight 114 or the Milwaukee- Eight 107. The larger engine can be used in the Tri Glide Ultra, Road Glide Ultra or Ultra Limited models while the smaller is preferred for the Road King, Harley-Davidson Street Glide, Electra Glide and Road Glide. It should be noted that you will not be able to install these new engines into older bikes.

These engines will be available at Harley-Davidson beginning in 2017. Don’t miss your chance to check out the latest and greatest engine they have to offer!
