Towing Your Bike: What to Do

Towing Your Bike: What to Do

Even the best motorcyclists and motorcycles need to be towed. Sometimes it’s an accident, your bike malfunctioned or you ran out of gas. Whatever the case may be, the fact that still remains: your bike needs to be towed.

If you ever find yourself in a position where your motorcycle needs to be towed, having towing insurance for your ride comes in handy. Hopefully, the insurance plan you chose comes with emergency roadside assistance and motorcycle towing. If it doesn’t, being a member of a service like AAA or the AMA is also ideal. In either case, find your membership or insurance card and place a call to the dispatcher. This process should be relatively easy, although you might have to wait for a representative to reach you.

Luckily, Florida motorcyclists don’t have to worry too much about dangerous weather conditions in the winter. In the summer, the temperature might start to climb, so we advise calling a friend or finding a shady place to wait until help arrives.

If you don’t have any kind of roadside assistance, there are other options available. One is to find a towing company central to your location (such as E-Tow Motorcycle Towing, 407.260.6884) — it’s a good idea to already have these numbers stored in your phone just in case. You might have to pay more for the ride, but the service should be reliable and get your bike where it needs to go.

If you know someone with a trailer who is capable of towing your motorcycle, that’s also an option, although we advise caution. Loading the bike yourself could cause more harm than good if you haven’t done so before. There are also laws in place that specify how a motorcycle has to be secured to avoid accidents. You don’t want to load up your bike the wrong way and have it shake loose in thick traffic.
